Allergens

Short version: the packet is the authority. Every product we sell carries full ingredient and allergen information printed on it by the manufacturer, in line with EU food labelling rules. If what's on the packet and what's on this website ever disagree, believe the packet.

What's commonly in Swedish sweets

Most of our range is produced in facilities that also handle:

  • Milk
  • Soy
  • Wheat (gluten)
  • Nuts and peanuts
  • Egg

That means cross-contamination is possible even in products that don't list an allergen as an ingredient. If you have a severe allergy, please treat everything here as potentially contaminated unless the manufacturer states otherwise on the packet.

Gelatin, and what's vegan

A lot of classic Swedish candy contains gelatin (usually pork). Plenty doesn't — foam sweets, many chews and most chocolate are often gelatin-free.

Where we know an item is vegan or gelatin-free, we mark it. Where we're not certain, we don't guess.

Liquorice, salmiak and blood pressure

Salty liquorice (salmiak) is a genuine Nordic obsession and an acquired taste. It contains ammonium chloride, and real liquorice root can raise blood pressure if you eat a lot of it regularly.

If you're pregnant, or you have high blood pressure or a heart condition, it's worth being moderate with liquorice specifically. Packets carry the manufacturer's own warnings where required.

Best before dates

Everything we ship is well within date. Sweets are usually fine past a best-before — texture goes before safety does — but if something arrives close to its date and you're not happy, tell us.

Ask us

If you need to check a specific ingredient before you order, email [SUPPORT EMAIL]. We'll physically read the packet and tell you exactly what it says. We'd much rather do that than have you guess.

This page is general guidance and not medical advice. If you have a diagnosed allergy, always check the packet yourself before eating.
